Gibson Electric Membership Corp.’s annual members meeting is set for Aug. 9 at Obion County Central High School in Troy.
The event will include activities for the entire family — from entertainment and health screenings to children’s activities, door prizes and lunch.
Registration, the health fair, energy exhibits and vendor exhibits will open at 8 a.m.
The health fair will offer a variety of testing, including cholesterol screening, a comprehensive metabolic panel, a prostate-specific antigen test, a bone density test, blood pressure screening and eye examinations. Lipid panel cholesterol screening will cost $10 and require eight hours of fasting (no food or drink, except water). The comprehensive metabolic panel will cost $5.50 and require eight hours of fasting. The PSA will cost $10, while the bone density will cost $10. The blood pressure and vision screening are free.
Country music recording artist Andy Childs will perform at 10 a.m. Childs lives in Nashville, where he is a staff writer for Windswept Music Publishing. His own albums feature several chart hits and music videos. He has toured with Clint Black, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, Charlie Daniels and many other top country stars. In 2002, he formed a five-member group, “Sixwire,” recorded an album for Warner Brothers Records and toured for two years with several country stars, including Tim McGraw, Lonestar and Hank Williams Jr. The album featured two hit singles and a groundbreaking hit video for the song “Look at Me Now.”
Following the entertainment, Gibson EMC president and CEO Dan Rodamaker and board members will provide a financial report, talk about significant activities that have taken place during the past fiscal year and discuss the cooperative’s future.
Throughout the day, there will be children’s activities, including face painting and inflatable jumpers. Children of all ages will enjoy magician Norman Spencer, “Bubbles the Clown,” “CFL Charlie” and “Louie the Lightning Bug.” Door prizes — including 11 $100 electric bill credits, an electric grill, an electric smoker and two Jiffy Steamers — will be given away throughout the day and members’ children will be eligible to win a Nintendo Wii and an electric scooter.
At the close of the meeting, attendees will receive free sack lunches with a choice of a barbecue sandwich or hot dog, a bag of chips and a soft drink or bottled water.
