The Messenger. 07.24.08 A Union City couple have been charged with a drug-related offense for allegedly obtaining prescription medication by fraud. Michael Graham Varner, 38, and Kimberly Dawn Varner, 30, both of 420 Beck St., Union City, were arrested at 7:29 p.m. Wednesday at their home and each charged with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, according to a Union City Police Department report. They were arrested after police spoke last week with a nurse practitioner about another case involving a local woman’s allegedly calling in false prescriptions claiming to be from the nurse practitioner’s clinic in Kenton. She reported other prescriptions that she didn’t authorize were passed at Fred’s Pharmacy and police subsequently spoke with both pharmacy staff and clinic staff during their investigation, obtaining names and copies of the prescriptions in question. Police reported one prescription was to Kimberly Varner for Lortab on June 23 and another was to Michael Varner for Lortab on June 30, with pharmacy staff recalling the Varners having picked them up. The Varners claimed another woman, who was charged with a similar drug-related offense earlier this month, allegedly offered to have her doctor call in the prescriptions and both told police they didn’t have any pills left because they’d been stolen recently, according to the report.
