‘CORNY’ FUND RAISER SET —
Posted: Thursday, July 24, 2008 4:25 pm The Messenger. 07.24.08 Members of Obion United Methodist Church hosted a “corny” fund raiser to benefit the emergency fund the congregation maintains to assist local families in times of need. The church cleared almost $2,000 in the first attempt at raising corn for sale last year on land donated by Randy and Susie Evans. Obion Co-op supplied seed, Obion Grain furnished fertilizer and members of the church came up with the “man” and “woman” power to harvest and sell the crop. Corn was planted three times and the first plot has already been picked and sold this year. The “peaches and cream” variety is sold for $3 for a “Methodist dozen” or 14 ears. Those wishing to reserve corn from the upcoming pickings may call Beth McDavid at 536-6711 or Patti Jennings at 536-4754 and supply a name, contact number and amount of corn they want to purchase. Among those taking part were (standing, from left) Robert McDavid, Alan Jordan, Ms. Jennings, David Glover, Polly Horne and (seated) Rad McDavid and Mrs. McDavid.
