The Dixie to present ‘Godspell’

wcp 7-22 “Godspell” will be performed at The Dixie July 24-26, with each show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Members of The Dixie Players, and other local community members, are set to take The Dixie’s stage for the production. “Godspell” is based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew, and this modern and contemporary retelling is a joyous celebration of music, mime, comedy and slapstick. The score of “Godspell” calls on all modern musical influences, including rock, gospel and ragtime, and includes the hits “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord” and “Day by Day.” Cast members include Mark Shreve as Jesus (Fairfield, Ill.); Blaine Sumler as John the Baptist / Judas (Lexington); and playing the roles of disciples are Gina Atkins (Huntingdon); Cari Beauchamp (Huntingdon); Lindsey Butler (Jackson); Jeruna Cozart (McLemoresville); Kaitlynn Crossno (Huntingdon); Veronica Giaimo (McKenzie); Brian Hill (McKenzie); Jessica Montoya; Tyler Padgett (Big Sandy); and Rob Simpson (Huntingdon). Band members include Letitia Bell, piano (McKenzie); Danny Ray Martin, guitar (Nashville); and Reginald Taber, drums (Memphis). The “Godspell” director is Kimberli Hood Easley (Huntingdon); musical director, Dr. Beth Everett (McKenzie); choreographer, Renée Hatfull Brooks (Jackson); stage manager, Angela Hodges (Huntingdon); properties and costumes, Clay Brown Barger (Huntingdon) and Gisela Hodges (Huntingdon); and set designer, Craig Lewis (Memphis/Clarksburg).
