The Messenger. 07.23.08 A rtelemarkete claiming to be seeking funds for a police foundation came calling at the wrong house Tuesday morning when he dialed the home of a Union City police officer. The police officer told The Messenger the caller was seeking money for a police foundation and claimed a portion of the funds would go to local police. When the officer identified himself as a police officer, the caller hung up. The officer said he tried to call back the toll-free number used by the telemarketer and received a recording saying he didn’t have any credit before being disconnected. The officer is urging local residents to use caution if contacted by telemarketers seeking funds for local police and said the Union City Police Department does not solicit funds from the community.
