The Messenger. 07.23.08 Leslie Rayburn Fleming, 90, of Birmingham, Ala., died July 22, 2008, in Birmingham. He was a former resident of this area. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Highway 150 in Hoover, Ala. Interment will follow there in Jefferson Memorial Gardens South, with Dr. Ed Glasscock officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 10-11 a.m. Thursday. He was born June 2, 1918, in the Elbridge community, son of the late Joe and Una Fleming. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee and pursued graduate studies at Southern Methodist University in Texas and at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He married the former Bette Parker Brown Dec. 8, 1956, and she preceded him in death after 46 years of marriage. The couple moved to Birmingham soon after their marriage and he was employed at Rust Engineering Co. until his retirement as chief structural engineer in 1983. He was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Nancy Fleming and Joe and Mary Fleming; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Brian Hoskins; seven grandchildren, Laura Fleming, Parker Fleming, Will Fleming, Charles Hoskins, Allen Hoskins, Sarah Fleming and Scott Fleming; his nephew, Houston Mason; and his niece, Suzanne Glasgow. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Fleming.
