The Messenger. 07.21.08 A Weakley County woman was arrested on drug-related and theft charges early Sunday at a Union City nursing home. Paula Faye Gordon, 43, of 165 Finch Road, Gleason, was arrested at 2:34 a.m. outside Golden Living Center at 1105 South Sunswept Drive and charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, theft under $500 and simple possession of prescription drugs, according to a Union City Police Department report. Police reported they responded to the center in regard to the welfare of a “troubled employee.” Upon arrival, the center’s assistant director of nursing said she had called police for the welfare of Ms. Gordon, identified as an employee who had just been given the opportunity to quit or be terminated, allegedly due to falling asleep and possibly being on some type of drugs, according to the report. A police officer said he approached Ms. Gordon in her vehicle as she was attempting to leave and asked if there was anything he could do to help. The officer reported that he realized Ms. Gordon was “confused or disoriented” and another officer allegedly observed Ms. Gordon stuffing something underneath the seat of the vehicle. Ms. Gordon was asked to exit the vehicle for the officers’ safety as a search for weapons was conducted. While checking for weapons, police found drugs, including Hydrocodone that allegedly belonged to a patient at the center and Promethazine, Cyclobenzaprine and Prevacid without a valid prescription, according to the report.
