The Messenger. 07.21.08 Stewart Ray “Stew-man” Byars, 48, of Union City, local radio and television personality, died in the early morning hours of July 19, 2008, following a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Ginger Yvonne (Godwin) Byars; his son, Michael Ray Byars of Mary Esther, Fla.; his daughter, Brandie Nicole Ann Byars of Hickman, Ky.; two stepsons, James Jason Dowland of Murfreesboro and Stuart Clint Dowland of Union City; his grandson, Alexander Michael Duncan of Hickman; his granddaughter, Sonora Audrey Ascensio of Murfreesboro; his brother, David Lee Byars, and his twin brother, Steve Byars, both of Union City; two sisters, Beverly Molands and Cathy Reynolds, both of Union City; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Doris Helen (Jimmerson) Byars; two brothers, Ralph Edward Byars and Rick Byars; and his sister, Janice Elizabeth Byars. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with visitation to begin at noon there. Byars will be remembered by residents of northwest Tennessee for his radio shows and his work at WCDZ, WCMT, WQAK, KYTN and other local radio stations and as co-host of Club Country on WLJT-TV. He was also involved in many on-air community events and had worked in commercial production at Clearchannel Radio in Memphis.
