wcp 7-22 On June 19, the members of Unit 94 met with the members of American Legion Post 94 at which some Auxiliary members were honored for having been members for 50 or more years. The ladies were seated at the head table. They were Grace Parker, Carol Hutcherson, Mildred Gallimore, Reba Nell Brasfield, Rebecca King, Adele Babyak, Lorene Call, Marie Mangum, Shirley Welles, and Toni Pritchett. Those ladies should be commended for having retained their membership all of those years and that showed their dedication as they supported the unit during that time. Grace Parker became a member when she was 13 years old. The excellent food was provided by the post and the ladies who took various foods to add to the fare. Following the dinner, John and Richard Herron, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Herron, thanked Post 94 for sending them to Boys State. Riley Beth Moran and Brada Taylor reported about their week at Girls State, and by the interest and exuberance exhibited as the reports were given showed that they shared an experience that will long be remembered. Riley Beth is the daughter Mr. and Mrs. Scott Moran and Brada is the daughter of Mrs. Steve Maupin. It is hoped that they will be successful in getting other junior girls interested in participating in Girls State next year. Following the joint meeting, the Auxiliary had its meeting with a call to order by President Sandra Klutts. Chaplain Janice Alford gave the devotional, and that was followed by Secretary/Treasurer Shirley Alexander reading the minutes and treasurer’s report of the last meeting. Both were approved as read. Toni Pritchett had a list of items that could be used by Jessica Darnell Garrow who is serving in the military in Iraq. Jessica is the daughter of Trent Darnell and the granddaughter of Eulane Darnell who was a member of Post 94 until his recent death. The members are to select any of the items that will be sent to her. President Klutts expressed thanks to Jane Young, Cathi Bickley, Susie Simms and Joan Foland for the beautiful table arrangements. Each white-covered table had on it a beautiful floral arrangement and a lighted candle. Each place setting had a napkin with patriotic emblems on it. President Klutts called each member at the head table by name and told each one what each honored member has meant throughout her life and how important those shared experiences are to her. She also asked that each Auxiliary member offer a prayer for our nation and our troops at 8 each night. Rebecca King expressed appreciation to everyone who had a part in making the program a success and that she appreciated being honored. Toni Pritchett told of the many memories she has of her association with the Auxiliary members. Long-stemmed red roses that were partially wrapped in white tissue paper and tied with red ribbons were presented to the honored members as tokens of appreciation for their long faithful membership in the Auxiliary. Several of the honored members had held different offices and all of them had devoted many hours of service as they helped carry out the objectives of the Auxiliary. In addition to preparing the roses, Cathi Bickley made and decorated long bookmarks for each of the honored members. It was good to see a large number in attendance and many who used to attend regularly are missed. The next meeting will be the third Thursday of July. Please make an effort to attend.
