Back on the sideline — Willie Trevathan, here making a point on the sideline during the 2006 state tournament, will return as the Greenfield High School head girls basketball coach after a one year hiatus.
The Greenfield Lady Yellow-jackets basketball team will have a new coach when the season tips off in November, but the period of adjustment for players and fans should be a brief one. Willie Trevathan is returning to the helm of the Greenfield High School girls basketball program after a year in the private business sector. Trevathan will also take the coaching reins of the Yellowjacket baseball team in the spring of 2009. “He was very open to getting back into coaching,” Greenfield principal Mike Riggs said of Trevathan’s return. “This is probably the smoothest transition we can make.” Trevathan was the GHS head hoops coach for four years amassing a record of 68-50 during that span. In 2006, he guided the Lady Jacket to their first state tournament trip since 1985. Trevathan will replace his replacement, Joe Holloway. After one year in Greenfield, Holloway, a longtime coaching veteran in Jackson, will coach the Jackson Preparatory School girls and boys hoop teams during the upcoming school year. Holloway, who took over a very young Lady Jacket team which then struggled with injuries, led GHS to a 7-18 record.
