Hayes helps ’Hounds to series win at O’boro Kitty League all-star Drew Hayes went 4-for-5 and the Union City Greyhounds rallied from a two-run deficit with four runs in the seventh to beat Owensboro 8-5 Wednesday night. Hayes, one of four UC players selected by a vote of coaches to the Kitty League All-Star team that will face the Central Illinois Collegiate League All Stars next week, bettered his average to .323 with his four-hit game. Luke Putnam went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored for the ’Hounds, who won the rubber game of a three-game set with the Oilers that began a nine-game road trip for UC. Union City begins another three-game series tonight at Fulton. Jud Stoltz (5-3) scattered nine hits over eight innings to get the pitching victory for the Greyhounds at O’boro Wednesday. Spencer Clifft struck out the side in the ninth for his 11th save, which established a new franchise record for the Greyhounds. Published in The Messenger 7.17.08
