By GLENDA H. CAUDLE Special Features Editor Odds are … It might be you, driving around to do your Christmas shopping in a new 2008 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid and congratulating yourself on having purchased the winning ticket from among the 2,200 being sold in the state-approved raffle currently being conducted by Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Tennessee. The tickets are $100 each and are available from club board members, by calling the club at 885-0883 or by going online to bgcnwt.org and click on the icon. Funds raised in the raffle for this brand new fully-loaded, 4×4, Green Car of the Year® will go to the local Boys & Girls Club. The club has almost 1,200 members on roll and serves local children and youth in a variety of after-school and summer programs. The board is currently raising funds to help operate the former Central Elementary School so that more children can be served each day in a setting that meets the needs of the growing club. Chief professional officer Ron Green said response to the raffle has been excellent since tickets went on sale a few days ago. The fact that so few tickets will be sold has attracted many potential prize winners who see their chances as excellent in the Nov. 1 drawing. Tickets will be on sale through Oct. 28 and the winner will be announced at the Central location, with lots of fun and fanfare for everyone who has been involved in the project. The Tahoe, which is on display at Terry Petty Chevrolet on Reelfoot Avenue in Union City, is “America’s first full-size hybrid SUV that provides the power and capability you expect from a utility vehicle, while delivering efficiency you never imagined,” a spokesman said. “Its hybrid propulsion system is designed to operate in three ways: electric power, engine power or any combination of electric and engine power. When you need the extra muscle of Tahoe’s Vortec V8, it kicks in seamlessly.” Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for the beautiful vehicle is $55,585. In addition to sitting in splendor on the local dealer’s lot for inspection, the vehicle will make surprise appearances at a variety of special events going on in the area and will be attracting attention from car lovers in some far away places, since the raffle is being advertised in magazines and outlets that would attract their attention. Green said he even sold tickets in his home state of Mississippi recently when he returned for a visit. “The chances of winning are so good because we’re limiting the number of tickets, and the car is this year’s favorite. We couldn’t have picked a better prize. In addition, the lucky winner and everyone who has supported this raffle will have the good feeling of knowing their efforts have benefited the boys and girls who come through our doors daily looking for a safe and positive place to have fun and learn some important life lessons at the same time.” Stop by Terry Petty Chevrolet to view the vehicle or take a test drive and then take your chances. The odds are looking good for car lovers and supporters of Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Tennessee. Published in The Messenger 7.16.08
