Several bridal courtesies were held recently honoring Jillian Leigh Johnson and Alexander Carlton Covarrubias, both of Memphis. Miss Johnson is formerly of Union City. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnson of Union City. Her grandparents are Marjorie Maksimchuk, the late John Maksimchuk and the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Johnson, all of Jackson, Mich. The groom-elect is the son of Alejandro and Sara Covarrubias of Atoka. His grandparents are Oscar and Sara Duke of Atoka and the late Maria Cruz Covarrubias of Brownsville, Texas. The couple will exchange vows at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 in Memphis at St. Louis Catholic Church. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony at the church in the Clunan Center. Couples Shower The beautiful backyard of Jay Cheatham and Nova Dillard’s home in Memphis served as the setting for a couples shower. Ms. Dillard is the sister of bride-elect and maid of honor. Bridesmaids Cindy Natera of Germantown and Tabitha Adams of Memphis co-hosted the event. The backyard featured white and blue canopies from which the guests ate and enjoyed each other’s company. The tables were decorated with red and white checked tablecloths for the cookout themed event. A variety of dips, vegetables, chips, potato salad, baked beans, grilled hotdogs and hamburgers were served. A cook out themed marbled flavor cake decorated with “He fires up the grill, She likes to bake sweets” was served to guests. Special guests included the bridal party, fraternity brothers of the groom-elect, sorority sisters of the bride-elect and close friends. The bridal couple opened an assortment of gifts for the house and grilling out. The bride was presented with individual gifts from the hostesses. Scrapbook Shower A scrapbooking bridal shower was held for the bride-elect at The Cascades Manor House in Jackson, Mich. The shower was hosted by her aunts, Shirley Clements of Big Rapids, Mich., Sharon Herder of Jackson, Mich., and Linda Johnson of Portland, Mich., and her cousin, Jody Clements of Big Rapids. The shower started with salad, fruit and bread for the first course. Next, the bride was surprised by her aunts with the theme of the shower. Supplies were available for each guest to make two scrapbooking pages to go in a wedding memory scrapbook for the bride-elect. Miss Johnson took a picture with each guest to go in the scrapbook and then the scrapbooking began. After the pages were completed, guests were served the main course of baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and a medley of summer vegetables. Gifts were opened at the shower and Miss Johnson was presented with individual gifts from the hostesses, along with the chocolate fountain which was used at the dessert table for guests to dip fruit, pretzels, marshmallows and bite size cream puffs. Special guests included the mother of the bride-elect, sister of the bride-elect, grandmother of the bride-elect, Michigan relatives and closed friends of the family. Atoka Shower The groom-elect’s mother hosted a bridal shower at her home in Atoka. Guests were served a variety of appetizers, including shrimp cocktail, mini quiches, egg rolls, chicken bites, layered taco dip with tortilla chips, vegetables with ranch dip, cheese, nuts and pineapple punch. The food tables were decorated with multiple vases of fresh cut summer flowers. Guests enjoyed each other’s company while playing a couple of bridal shower games. The bride opened an assortment of gifts for the kitchen and home. The hostess gift was part of the bridal couple’s Hotel Collection bedding. Special guests included the grandmother of the groom-elect, the sister of the bride-elect, bridesmaid Tabitha Adams and close family friends of the groom-elect. Union City Shower A bridal shower was recently held in the beautiful home of Claudia Maness in Union City. The bride-elect was presented a beautiful corsage of yellow and pink roses. Special guests included the mother of the bride-elect, the bride-elect’s sister, high school friends of the bride-elect and family friends.
