Troy Community Involvement Days to provide something for everyone

By DONNA RYDER Messenger Associate Editor There will be a celebration in Troy this weekend. The annual Troy Community Involvement Days is slated for Friday and Saturday. There will be plenty to enjoy including food vendors, rides, a petting zoo, games, sales vendors and jumping castles. Several regular annual events are included in the line-up, which begins with a flag raising ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday at City Park. Beauty pageants for girls in grades 7-12 and for married women will be held at 5:30. Country Renegades will perform at 7:30. Children are invited to play games at 9 a.m. Saturday on the square. A basketball shootout will follow at Trojan Park. A Rook tournament is slated for 10 at the Troy Senior Citizens Center, while pets will overtake the park for a pet show at 10:30. Greater Vision Ministries in Troy will provide entertainment at 12:30 p.m., followed by a magic show provided by Larry Mink at 3. Girls from birth to sixth-grade and boys from birth to 4-years-old will compete for crowns beginning at 4. Cake and gift walks will be held at 6. Nash-Vegas Country Band will perform at 7:15. Businesses and individuals from across the county have donated several nice prizes, which will be given away at noon on Saturday. Cash drawings for $500 each, donated by First State and First Citizens National banks, will be held each night. Entry forms for the beauty pageants are available at Troy City Hall, First Citizens National Bank and First State Bank in Troy and JoAnn’s and Chocolate Bunny in Union City. The fee is $20, with an additional $5 charged for the photogenic competition. Categories include for boys: Birth to 11 months, 12-23 months and 2-4 years old. Girls groupings include birth to 11 months, 12-23 months, 2-3 years, 4-5 years, first-second grades, third-fourth grades, fifth-sixth grades, seventh-eighth grades, ninth-12th grades and married women.
