Posted: Tuesday, July 15, 2008 2:04 pm The Messenger. 07.14.08 Thelma Jean Brown Goldsmith, 79, of Union City died 3 a.m. July 13, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City. Funeral services were to be conducted 2 p.m. today at Dilday Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chris Gouger officiating. Burial was to follow in Mount Olive Cemetery. Pallbearers were Luther Ward, Tim Brown, Ty Brown, Joe Love, Billy Love and Nicholas Brown. She was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Campbell County, daughter of the late Mike and Gertie (Overton) Ward. She married B.F. “Buck” Brown Nov. 9, 1946. He died Oct. 28, 1981. She then married Sidney Goldsmith Dec. 17, 2006. He survives. She was retired from Indiana Glass Company in Dunkirk, Ind., was a member of Union City Baptist Temple, had been an active member of the Obion County Senior Citizens Center and was an avid bingo player. Other survivors include two daughters, Mae Holt and Jean Love, both of Union City; three sons, Bennie Brown of Dukedom, Mike Brown of Chattanooga and Randy Brown of Union City; three sisters, Alma Byrd of La Follette, Betty Allen of Caryville and Lois Gibson of Jacksboro; four brothers, Billy Ward, J.C. “Junior” Ward and Fred Ward, all of Jacksboro, and Luther Ward of LaFollette; 10 grandchildren, Tina Whitten of Dukedom, Tim Brown of South Fulton, Ty Brown of Trenton, Billy Love, Joe Love, Terra Byars and Tamra Byars, all of Union City, and Nicholas Brown, Haley Gautreaux and Michele Jones, all of Chattanooga; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, R.L. Ward and J.L. Ward.
