Mattie Bell Hopper

The Messenger. 07.15.08 Mattie Bell (Harrison) Hopper, 87, of Martin, a former resident of Obion County, died July 14, 2008, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home in Martin. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Hornbeak City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until the hour of services Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Brent Pate, Brandon Pate, Bill Schnure, Will Schnure, Ronnie Mosley, Eddie James and Terry James. She was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Obion County, daughter of the late Ellis and Kelly (Harrison) Harrison. She married Elmer Hopper in February 1938. He died June 15, 1980. She had retired from the former Obion County General Hospital and had managed Hopper’s Place at Lassiter’s Corner for many years. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Martin. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Betty Pate and Jeanette Davidson, both of Martin, and Barbara Sims of Granbury, Texas; five grandchildren, Patti Schnure of Atlanta, Brent Pate of Martin, Senna Mosley of La Vergne, Terry Sims of Austin, Texas, and Kim Budnick of Bedford, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren, Will Schnure of Atlanta, Brandon Pate and Megen Pate, both of Martin, Jenae Mosley of La Vergne, Cody Sims and Zoe Sims, both of Princeton, Texas, and Kayley Budnick and Hayden Budnick, both of Bedford. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Willie Harrison; her grandson, Dereck Pate; her sister, Minnie James; and two brothers, Marvin Harrison and Boyd Harrison.
