Every Thursday night from April to October, the Jackson Area Plectral Society’s music fills the air around the front porch of Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store restaurant. But during the annual Casey Jones Old-Time Bluegrass Festival held the second weekend in September, everyone takes the stage at the beautiful Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre. Two days of festivities and live performances showcase bands made up of members of the Plectral Society as well as impromptu shade tree pickin’ on the grounds. Festival officials have announced that admission to the festival will be free to everyone this year with no gate admission charged. Also, plans are in the works to add more family activities and details will be forthcoming closer to the event. Music will include old-time bluegrass, old-time gospel and old-time mountain and folk music. Festival hours are 5-10 p.m. on Sept. 12 and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 13 from at the Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre. Published in The Messenger 7.15.08
