Briefly Greyhounds take winning show on road The Union City Greyhounds continued their winning ways with a 5-1 victory on the road over the Farmington Firebirds Thursday evening. Union City, now 20-18 on the season, returns to action tonight with the second game of the three-game set at Farmington. Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday evening with the ‘Hounds able to lick their wounds on Sunday thanks to an off day. No game statistics were reported to The Messenger. Condoleezza will be at closing of Olympics WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will attend the closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic games in August. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters Thursday that Rice also looks forward to attending some sporting events during the games’ closing days. President Bush will attend the opening ceremonies. Human rights groups had urged Bush to boycott the ceremonies to oppose China’s crackdown on protesters in Tibet. The Bush administration argues that the Olympics are a sporting event and that U.S. officials will raise human and religious rights with Chinese officials. Babe Ruth tourneys will continue in UC Play will continue in the 14-year-old and 15-year-old Babe Ruth District Tournaments at Graham Park this weekend. The championship games for the tournaments that feature Union City, Obion County, Decatur County, Benton County, Henry County and Lexington will be on Sunday.
