The WestStar Leadership Pro-gram’s 2008 class has published the West Tennessee Festival & Event Guide, an informational resource for major festivals and events. Compiling and producing the guide served as the group’s class project. WestStar was created in 1989 at the University of Tennessee at Martin to provide leadership development and training for selected participants. The program now has 524 graduates. Each WestStar class is responsible for organizing a class project designed to benefit West Tennessee. The new guide lists almost 140 festivals and events and includes specific event information. David Belote, WestStar executive director, said the guide will be a helpful resource and contributor to the region’s economic development. “I’m pleased that the class chose this particular project,” Belote said. “This group seized the opportunity to promote West Tennessee’s tourism industry, which attracts visitors and fosters economic growth in our communities.” Copies of the guide are available through local chambers of commerce or by visiting http://www.utm.edu/departments/weststar/ and clicking on “Leadership Resources.” The guide is listed under “Special Links.” Published in The Messenger 7.3.08
