The Messenger. 07.03.08 Calvin Lee “Slick” Harris, 64, of Halls died July 1, 2008, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was a retired employee of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Union City with 30 years of service. Services will be Saturday at noon at Womack Temple CME Church in Dyersburg, with burial following there in Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the church. Cosmopolitan Funeral Home in Dyersburg is in charge of arrangements. He was born Oct. 14, 1943, in Dyersburg, son of the late Elijah and Icy Lee (Crayton) Harris. He was the widower of Laverne (Campbell) Harris, whom he married May 13, 1973. She died Sept. 15, 2005. He was a member of Womack Temple CME Church and Masonic Lodge 422 Look to the East in Halls. Survivors include his daughter, Monica Madison of Halls; two sons, Calvin Harris Jr. and Courtney Harris, both of Halls; five grandchildren, Nicholas Madison and Jaylon Madison, both of Halls, Joshua Harris of Humboldt, Jeremiah Harris of Gates and Elijah Harris of Dyersburg; two brothers, J.C. Harris of Chicago and Richard Harris of Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Iris Halliburton and Judith Lewis, both of Dyersburg, and Edith Mays of Kansas City, Kan.; and his aunt, Rowena Crayton of Chicago. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, L.C. Harris and William Lee Harris; and three sisters, Lillian Mims and twins Ernestine Harris and Mary Lee Harris.
