Posted: Tuesday, July 1, 2008 5:16 pm The Messenger. 07.01.08 Completed arrangements are being announced for Valrie (Roberts) Wortham, 83, of Union City, who died June 27, 2008, at Union City Manor Nursing Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Rawls Funeral Home in Union City, with interment following in East View Cemetery. Bishop Robert Merriweather will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. She was born March 1, 1925, in Tiptonville, daughter of the late Bessie Roberts and the late James Jones. She was adopted by her aunt and uncle, the late Nell and Robert F. Roberts, and was the widow of Sonny Lee Wortham. She was a domestic worker who had retired from First State Bank and was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Union City, where she was an usher and a member of the senior mission and the senior choir. Survivors include her daughter, Joan Blackmon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren and the spouse of one, Sgt. 1st Class Franklin E. and Kimberly Abram of Bethesda, Md., Timothy Abram of Atlanta, Melissa Abram of Houston and Kimberly Abram and Christopher Abram, both of Cedar Rapids; her sister, Mildred Massey of Union City; and seven great-grandchildren.
