Dog pound in UC a disgrace To The Editor: Union City has a lot of good things happening at the present time and plans are in motion for greater happenings. In view of the recent attention given to the cruelty and abuse of animals, we need to address the matter and improve our image in that area. The current dog pound is a disgrace to our community and should not be tolerated by our citizens or city officials. Kittens weighing less than one-half pound are left on the damp concrete floor with no bedding or food. Small kittens cannot get in the shoe box that is substituting for a litter box. Puppies have no bedding and are expected to eat large dog food nuggets instead of the puppy food they need for survival. We cannot be positive the animals are dead before being thrown in a dumpster. This is an added concern. Wanda and Rodger Tanner have told their story and taken a stand. If you want things to be corrected and improvements made, tell your story. Write a statement, sign and date it, make three copies and mail it to the proper officials, which are, in order of rank, Mayor Terry Hailey, Kathy Dillon, substituting for city manager Don Thornton and Chief of Police Joe Garner. It is your responsibility to speak out and protect your pet. Sue Archer Union City Published in The Messenger 7.1.08
