The Messenger. 06.30.08 Betty Pierce, 83, of Hickman, Ky., died 2:50 p.m. June 25, 2008, at Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton. Services were set for 1 p.m. today at Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Hickman, with the Rev. Steven Turner officiating. Burial was to follow in Hickman City Cemetery. Strong Funeral Home in Hickman was in charge of arrangements. She was born Aug. 31, 1924, in Hickman, daughter of the late Melvin and Mattie Marney. She was the widow of William Pierce and was a member of Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include four sons, Raymond Pierce and Melvin Pierce, both of Hickman, Gary Pierce of Martin and Marvin Pierce of Madison, Wis.; five daughters, Betty Elam and Mary Holloway, both of Hickman, Marcella Smith of Madison, Mary Etta Pierce of Milwaukee and Phyllis Taylor of Dyersburg; her brother, Ben Marney of Jackson; two sisters, Mildred Terrell of Fulton and Mary Simpson of Fulton; and 27 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Edna Mitchell; her brother, Cleatus Marney; and her sister, Susan Knox.
