Miss Johnson to wed Covarrubias in August

The engagement and forthcoming marriage of Jillian Leigh “Jill” Johnson and Alexander Carlton “Alex” Covarrubias, both of Memphis, is being announced today. The bride-elect is the daughter of Thomas and Diane Johnson of Union City. Her grandparents are Marjorie Maksimchuk, the late John Maksimchuk and the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Johnson, all of Jackson, Mich. She is a 2001 graduate of Union City High School. She graduated in 2005 with magna cum laude honors from the University of Memphis with a bachelor of science degree in education. She concentrated her studies in fashion merchandising and marketing. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi Honors society. She is employed with Freds Inc. as an assistant buyer in domestics department. The groom-elect is the son of Alejandro and Sara Covarrubias of Atoka. His grandparents are Oscar and Sara Duke of Atoka and the late Maria Cruz Covarrubias of Brownsville, Texas. He graduated from Munford High School in 1999. He earned a bachelor of business administration degree in 2004 from the University of Memphis, where he concentrated his studies in international business and Spanish. He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity He is employed by Alfac Insurance and Alsac/St. Jude. The couple will wed at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Memphis. A reception will be held at the Clunan Center at St. Louis Catholic Church. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. Published in The Messenger 6.25.08
