Donations are still being sought on 7-year-old Mayci Hogg’s Web site for a special fundraiser involving Kim Roy from Styles Salon in Dyersburg, who has announced that she will shave her head if $3,000 in donations are received for that specific fundraiser. Mayci, the daughter of Richard and Kristi (Roberson) Hogg of Samburg, suffers from a rare mitochondrial disorder that has resulted in a variety of medical treatment all of her young life. She is currently in Wisconsin undergoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which has provided new hope for her and her family. The donations for Ms. Roy’s head-shaving fundraiser are needed by Saturday, when “Mayci’s Miracle Day” will be staged starting at 11 a.m. at the Tiptonville National Guard armory, located at 2375 State Route 21 East. As of 10:07 p.m. Thursday, a total of $2,294 had been donated toward Ms. Roy’s fundraiser. Donations for Ms. Roy’s effort may be made at Mayci’s Web site at www.westtennesseecares.com. Donations may be made through PayPal and donors should note on the donation form “For the hair.” A News Note announcing “Mayci’s Miracle Day” in Wednesday’s edition of The Messenger indicated that the head-shaving was set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tiptonville event in order for Ms. Roy to make good on a promise to shave her head if $3,000 in donations were received. It may have left some readers with the impression that the funds had been fully raised when, in fact, they have not. Published in The Messenger 6.20.08
