The Missoula Children’s Theatre will present Sleeping Beauty, an original adaptation of the classic fairy tale, at the Carson Center in Paducah, Ky., June 28. Student auditions will be held at the Carson Center Monday at 9:30 a.m. Rehearsals will be Monday through June 28. A free workshop will also be held Tuesday through Thursday. This week-long residency begins with an open group audition and culminates in two public performances. Fifty to 60 students in grades K-12, or a combination of these ages, will be cast and will rehearse throughout the week, learning lines, songs and choreography to perform as an ensemble in producing the full-length musical. Available are 50-60 acting roles for students in grades 1-12, and four to six assistant director positions for students ages 10 and older. In addition, three theatrically-based workshops will also be offered for students, and are separate from participation in the performance. Each workshop is an age-appropriate, educational, interactive exploration of the performing arts through hands-on activities conducted by Missoula’s professional actors.
