Tenn. governor performs spontaneous wedding
KNOXVILLE. (AP) — The governor was in town. So state Sen. Tim Burchett and his fiance, Allison Beaver, saw no reason to wait. They’d planned a September wedding. But when the Knoxville Republican was invited to a bill-signing with Gov. Phil Bredesen at a seniors’ center in Knoxville on Tuesday, his bride-to-be was inspired. “Allison said, ’Why don’t we just go and get a marriage license and let the governor marry us?”’ Burchett explained. “I said, ‘Well, let’s go!”’ They did and the governor agreed. After a simple ceremony on the center’s grounds lasting no more than “eight or nine” minutes, Bredesen pronounced the Burchetts husband and wife. ——— Information from: The Knoxville News Sentinel, http://www.knoxnews.com Published in The Messenger 6.19.08
