Ruby Mae (Byrd) Clanton, 91, of Memphis died June 16, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was the mother and mother-in-law of Charles and Paula Clanton of Troy. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia, Miss. Burial will follow in Cathey Cemetery near Wyatte, Miss. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. today. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Foundation. She was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Memphis and was the widow of George Wesley Clanton. Survivors include four daughters and a son-in-law, Janie Cope of Wyatte, Allie Weaver and Freda and Sam Lester, all of Millington, and Peggy Stigall of Marion, Ill.; two additional sons and a daughter-in-law, Bobby Clanton and Roy and Christy Clanton, all of Millington; a sister-in-law, Dora Byrd of Wyatte; and 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 37 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Damascus and Olivia Jane Byrd; a sister, Mattie Ozeath Clanton; and three brothers, William Mildred Byrd, Willie Milton Byrd and Rufus Damascus Byrd Jr. Published in The Messenger 6.18.08
