TRUCK OVERTURNS — The driver of a truck hauling five yards — about 20,000 pounds — of liquid concrete from Barham Road to a construction site on Pleasant Valley Road escaped serious injury this morning when the truck overturned at the intersection of Miles Avenue and Cheatham Street. Jason Morphis of Union City was transported by Regional Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for examination. Union City Police Department patrolman Danny Carr, who investigated the accident, said Morphis was driving south on Cheatham Street and was negotiating the 90-degree turn when the truck had an undetermined malfunction and overturned. “Fortunately, there were no other vehicles involved. Mr. Morphis was wearing a seat belt,” Carr said. “He seems to be OK. It shook him up, of course. … No charges are pending. No ticket was issued,” Carr said. Buddy’s Wrecker Service dispatched a crew to upright the truck and remove it from the street. The truck, a 2000 Oshkosh, is owned by Federal Materials Company of Union City. The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Union City Fire Department sent units to the scene. Published in The Messenger 6.18.08
