Kenton festivities set

Kenton White Squirrel Days will be celebrated July 4 but will have a kick-off event June 29. “Preachin’ and Singin’ are planned for 7 p.m. that day at the Kenton Park gazebo. Sponsored by the Kenton Ministerial Alliance, it is a community worship service and those attending are reminded to bring lawn chairs. On July 4, the day will begin with fun and games for children from 8 a.m.-noon at the park, where concessions will be available. A parade is planned for 11 a.m. that day, with lineup at 10 at the Plastech parking lot. Dignitaries from Obion and Gibson counties are invited to appear in the parade and all entries will be welcome, an organizer said. The street dance planned for that evening will begin at 7 and continue until 10 at the park, provided the weather cooperates. In the event of rain, dancing will be moved to the gym at the former Kenton School. Lawn chairs will also be important at this event. Concessions will be available. The community is invited to celebrate the birthday of the nation at any or all of these festivities, a spokesman said. Published in The Messenger 6.17.08
