Mary Holmes Bennett
Mary Holmes Bennett, 82, of Dresden, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at her residence. Services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dresden First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. John Quinton, Jim Calhoun and Dan Leslie officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bowlin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Benjamin Beaton, Kenneth Bennett, Richard Bennett, Paul Harber, Matthew Harber and John Harber served as pallbearers. Mrs. Bennett was born July 23, 1925, in McLemoresville, daughter of the late Ewin B. and Dollye McKinney Holmes. She was a 1949 graduate of University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a bachelor of science degree in home economics, a member of Dresden First United Methodist Church, a member and past president of United Methodist Women of Dresden, past children’s director at First United Methodist Church in Dresden, member of Christian Women’s Club and a member of Gideon’s Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Walter B. Bennett of Dresden; two daughters, Melanie (Ron) Harber of Paris and Beth (Ron) Beaton of Paducah, Ky.; one sister, Rebeccah Smith of Tiptonville; five grandchildren, Paul (Danyel) Harber and John Harber, both of Paris, Matthew Harber of Dallas, Texas, Benjamin (Andrea) Beaton of New York, N.Y., and Lori Beaton of Louisville, Ky.; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Harber and Noah Harber, both of Paris.
