A Samburg man was arrested after police observed him allegedly trying to steal anhydrous ammonia. Michael Joseph Cook, 37, of 121 Poplar St., was charged Saturday with initiating process to manufacture methamphetamine, criminal trespassing and resisting a stop, halt, frisk or search. A Union City police officer reported he was on patrol driving around the anhydrous tanks at 800 Mount Zion Road when he observed someone trying to steal anhydrous ammonia from one of the tanks. The subject tried to hide in the grass between the tanks as the officer approached and he then ran. Cook was caught about 200 yards from the tanks and taken into custody. A rubber inner tube was found connected to the tank with a heavy winter coat over it. The inner tube was run into a carbonated soft drink container, according to the report.
