A Memphis man being sought by Paducah, Ky., authorities in connection with an armed rape was apprehended Thursday afternoon by Union City police.
Darryl McKinnley Samuels, 25, of 2132 Blue Ridge Parkway, Memphis, was arrested at 3:22 p.m. in the 1200 block of Everett Boulevard on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, alteration of serial numbers and fugitive from justice with a warrant, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Local police had been alerted to be on the lookout for Samuels, who was possibly traveling from Paducah to Memphis. Paducah police needed the vehicle stopped because the driver was wanted for an armed rape that had occurred about 45 minutes earlier, according to the report.
Shortly after 3 p.m., a Union City police officer in the Everett Boulevard area located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, police found a handgun in the passenger floorboard, as well as two loaded magazines in a box. In addition, a loaded 20-gauge shotgun was found wrapped in a pillow case in the trunk, police reported.
Samuels was arrested and transported to the Obion County Law Enforcement Complex.
According to a copy of a criminal complaint and arrest warrant from the Paducah Police Department, Samuels was being sought on a charge of first-degree rape in connection with an alleged incident Thursday in McCracken County, Ky.
