SIU-Edwardsville
joining OVC fold

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville is joining the Ohio Valley Conference.
The league, which includes Austin Peay, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin, announced the move Tuesday, as the Cougars transition from NCAA Division II to Division I.
SIU becomes the Ohio Valley’s eleventh team as of July 1. It replaces Samford, an Alabama private school that is defecting to the Southern Conference.
The Cougars will begin regular-season competition in the OVC during the 2011-2012 academic year and in most cases will be eligible for postseason the next year.
The other OVC schools are: Eastern Illinois, Southeast Missouri State, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Morehead State and Murray State.

Pittsburgh assistant
hired to help Cal

MEMPHIS (AP) — Memphis basketball coach John Calipari has filled out his coaching staff, hiring Orlando Antigua away from Pittsburgh as an assistant.
Calipari announced the hiring Tuesday, adding Antigua to a staff featuring John Robic and Josh Pastner.
Antigua has been an assistant coach for two years at Pittsburgh.
Before that, Antigua was Pittsburgh’s director of basketball operations.

W’ridge gal victors
have a stroke lead

Decie Franklin, Deedy Thomason, Theresa Harbour and Teresa Scott combined to take first place with a score of 3-under-par in the weekly women’s scramble at Wynridge Greens in Troy Tuesday evening, according to information provided by the course.
Sheri Vaughan, Marie Millner, Deb Forsythe and Diane Pilkenton finished in a tie for second place with the combination of Alice Peepols, Letha Barnes, Cheryl Brundige, Beverly Yates and Charlotte Hall. Both teams shot a 2-under.
Wynridge Greens holds its weekly women’s scramble every Tuesday evening.
