The Messenger 06.05.08 ‘DARE’ING STUDENTS — Several fifth-grade students at Union City Elementary School recently received special recognition as a result of their outstanding efforts with the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program at the school. Union City Police Department officer Stephanie Marshall (top photo, center), who teaches DARE and is the school resource officer at UCES, congratulated DARE Role Model recipient Emily Houston (left) and Scottie Mitchell Award recipient Dawn Myers. She also recognized DARE essay winners (middle photo, from left) Macy Earley, second place; Darrell Huff, first place; and Jackson Bruff, third place. They were all honored at the recent DARE graduation held at the school prior to the dismissal of classes for the summer. The program featured guest speaker Micah Harbison (bottom photo, left), minister of students at Second Baptist Church in Union City, and Union City Police Chief Joe Garner (center), who, along with Mrs. Marshall, congratulated Huff for his win in the essay competition.
