Walkers to sing at Graves Chapel
The Messenger. 06.05.08 The Walkers of Perry, Fla., will present a gospel music celebration Saturday at 7 p.m. at Graves Chapel Church of God at 112 Luther Davis Road near Troy. The Rev. William Matheny is pastor. Billy Walker is both a singer with the group and the manager, in addition to running the sound stage. He previously sang with The Steeles. His sister, Gail, is the group’s emcee and bus driver, as well as a gifted singer. She has appeared on stage with The Rambos and The Goodmans. Geneva Walker, the mother of this talented family, is a licensed minister and she plays keyboard and sings. She also writes many of the group’s songs and is an author. Angela Walker (not pictured) is married to Billy Walker and is responsible for The Walkers office duties, merchandising and multi-media efforts. Since 1991, the Walkers have been engaged in music evangelism, even through the dark days when Geneva Walker’s husband, who was a part of the group at the time, did not survive a carbon monoxide tragedy on their tour bus. Faith, perseverance and dedication are the hallmarks of their ministry: faith to believe and trust, perseverance to stay determined, even in adversities, and dedication to look nowhere else but to stay focused on the job at hand — elevating the name of Jesus Christ. During the past 15 years, they have sung at venues across the country and even in the Upper Senate Park across from the U.S. Capitol. The community is invited to attend this concert.
