The Messenger. 06.05.08 Guests welcomed Sunswept Baptist Church, located at 205 South Sunswept Drive in Union City, will be hosting a mission team from Emmanuel Baptist Church in Henderson, Texas, Monday through June 13. Emmanuel Baptist Church will also host a clothing give- away at Sunswept. The clothing hours will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through June 12 and on June 13 from 8 a.m.-noon. SOS Service set Singles on Sunday Service will begin the third Sunday of each month at Second Baptist Church, located at 831 Everett Blvd. in Union City. The first SOS Service, for singles of college age and older, will be June 15 at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. Call the church office at 885-5223 for more information. 10-party yard sale set Manna Ministries will open a 10-party yard sale 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the church at 4001 Ken-Tenn Highway. “We’ll have a little bit of everything at good cheap prices,” a spokesman said. Proceeds from the sale, which is located on the site of a former drive-in movie theater, will be used by the congregation for a new ministry that will have a special appeal for youth. The Rev. Ruth Green is pastor. Battle of Bands slated The Battle of the Christian Bands will heat up at Center United Methodist Church, located at 3430 Edgewood Road in Newbern, June 21. Music will begin around noon and concessions will be available. The rain date will be June 28. Entry fee for bands will be $30, payable to Center Church. Homecoming planned Minnick Bible Church will host homecoming and Decoration Day events Sunday. Worship will begin at 11, followed by a potluck meal and fellowship in the afternoon. The Minnick Cemetery Association meeting will follow at 1:30 p.m. New church opens New Beginnings of Union City, located at 2221 Oakshire Road, will host its first service Sunday at 5 p.m. The guest speaker will be Becky Jones of Rives. Angela Simbeck is pastor and regular services at the non-denominational church will be Sundays at 5 p.m. and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. The community is invited to attend. Revival to begin Faithway Baptist Church, located on Highway 51 in Troy, will welcome the Rev. Larry Seals of Morristown as evangelist for revival services that will begin June 13 at 7 p.m., continue June 14 at 7 p.m. and wrap up June 15, with Sunday School at 10 a.m., morning worship at 11 and the final service at 5 p.m. The Rev. VBS planned “Outrigger Island — Living God’s Unshakeable Truth™,” will be the theme for Calvary Baptist Church’s Vacation Bible School Monday through June 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. The church is located at 2250 East Reelfoot Ave. Classes will be available for children from kindergarten-ready through fifth-grade-ready. Students will enjoy Bible study, recreation, games, snacks and music. Registration can be made by calling the church office at 885-2961 or bringing the children a few minutes early on Monday. Transportation inside the Union City area is also available. All children in the area in the designated age groups are invited to attend. The VBS will wrap-up on the final evening with a Family Fun Night. The pastor is the Rev. Melvin Poe. ‘Lunch’ event set Area residents are invited to meet at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church at 720 East College St. in Union City Wednesdays at noon for “Lunch With the Lord” that will feature “feasting” on prayer.
