The Messenger. 06.04.08 James A. Choate, 91, of Martin died 10:35 p.m. June 3, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenlea Cemetery in Fulton, with the Rev. H.B. Fields officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton is in charge of arrangements. He was born Sept. 24, 1916, in Humphreys County, son of the late John Martin and Bessie Lue (Castleman) Choate. He was the widower of Margaret (Matheny) Choate and was a longtime resident of this area who had also lived in Waverly. He had been a plumber at the former Stanley Jones Corp. in South Fulton and was a member of South Fulton United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his daughter, Linda McWhorter of Clinton, Ky.; his son, James L. Choate of Union City; and five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Marie Ring; two grandchildren; two brothers, Morris Choate and Ernest Choate; and two sisters, Grace Rice and Minnie Grissom.
