Memorial Day Weekend Homecoming Festival in Sidonia

HOMECOMING — Alicia Elling of Sidonia modified a menu for new products and old at the annual Memorial Day Weekend Homecoming Festival in Sidonia. Special this year was Tennessee’s national drink Double Cola™. This is a Coke™ alternative, but the brand recognition was nil, a spokesman said, adding even young children were familiar with the 6 1/2-ounce Coke bottles, but no one younger than age 40 knew Double Cola. The homecoming, which first began during the Statehood Anniversary in 1986, is in its 22nd year. Since 1990, a standard feature has been selling ice-cold soda in returnable glass bottles. New to the homecoming this year was a 32-unit antique tractor show. It featured a parade and provided many strange and antique farm machines which were commonplace back in the 1930s to 1970s. Many of the owners who had lived during those years told countless adventures of dealing with the tractors, the fields and the crops. Published in The Messenger 6.3.08
