Absentee voting set
The Messenger. 06.03.08 Obion County voters who wish to request a ballot that will enable them to vote by mail must request the ballot in writing and mail in the request to Obion County Election Commission, P.O. Box 52, Union City, TN 38281 or fax it to 885-6280. The request must include the voter’s signature, Social Security number, date of birth, the address of their Obion County residence and the date and name of the election (state primary, general, etc.) in which they plan to vote by mail. The request must also indicate if the voter wishes to vote Democratic or Republican. The request must also indicate an address to which the ballot must be mailed and the reason for voting by mail. Those eligible to vote by mail include those who have registered in person or voted at least once after registering on a by-mail registration application. They must be 65 years old or older; handicapped or disabled; a care giver for someone who is sick or elderly; out of the county because of military service; out of the county during the early voting period and Election Day; or a student who is away at school and has registered in person or has voted since they registered on a “by mail” application. The student must also provide proof of enrollment in a university. The request may serve as an application if the voter has included the required information. The last day a written request for an absentee ballot application may be received in the Obion County Election Office is July 31, 2008.
