The Messenger. 06.02.08 An Illinois man was injured early Sunday when the vehicle he was driving crashed at East Main Street and Section Line Road in Union City. Jamal L. Rollins, 33, of 4645 Lake Trail Drive, Lisle, Ill., sustained injury in an accident that occurred about 7:10 a.m. Sunday, according to a Union City Police Department report. He complained of a back injury and was taken by Regional Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment, police reported. During the accident investigation, it was deteremined by police that Rollins was evading an attempted traffic stop by a police vehicle. He had been clocked by police patrol traveling 73 mph in a 45 mph zone, according to the report. While police were attempting to stop the 1999 Chrysler Concorde, Rollins allegedly accelerated to a higher rate of speed, attempting to evade the stop. Upon a patrol vehicle’s attempting to get close enough to the vehicle to obtain a tag number, the driver allegedly continued at a high rate of speed on East Main Street and when he attempted to make a lefthand turn onto Section Line Road, he lost control, police reported. The vehicle started sliding sideways just prior to Section Line Road, traveling across the road and striking a utility pole on the east side of the road. Rollins was charged with evading in a motor vehicle, according to the report, which also indicated that Rollins did not own the vehicle.
