Relay For Life set for Greenfield Friday
It’s the annual event that brings those touched by cancer together to celebrate hope and life as the Weakley County Relay for Life South kicks off on Friday. This year’s theme is “Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.” The Relay South event is set to kick off at 3 p.m. at the Greenfield Football Field Friday. Anyone and everyone are invited to the annual event for American Cancer Society. The 12-hour Relay South monumental celebration is full of entertainment, food and the traditional memorial to those who have lost battles with cancer. Schedule of Events: • 3-5 p.m. Children’s activities; music begins • 5-7 p.m. Teams begin selling food; Survivor registration begins; Entertainment by The Rawls and The Vaughns, Shannon Lackey, Grace Abound, Larry Morgan • 7-7:30 p.m. Animal Show – Cosmic Cousins • 7:30-8:30 p.m. Opening Ceremonies take place with a prayer; welcome; presentation of colors by the Boy Scouts; Gail Muzzall will sing the National Anthem; introductions of dignitaries and sponsors; Honorary Chairs Rozelle Wiseman of Gleason, Sue Bailey of Dresden, Linda Little of Greenfield and Jimmy Croom representing the youth, will also be introduced; bagpipes will play as the Honor Choir comes forward. The Survivor Recognition will also begin during this time as they make their lap around the field. The Teams Lap will follow and the Relay Committee will perform its skit during this time. • 8:30-9:30 p.m. Teams will begin their walk as the entertainment continues during this hour. Violet and the Good Timers and the Beech Springs Praise Band will perform. There will also be Impersonator; Tacky Purse and Susie Q contests. • 9:30-10 p.m. Luminary Service • 10 p.m. – 12 a.m. Team Competitions will begin as well as the announcement of Mr. relay. • 12-12:30 Fight Back ceremonies are scheduled. • 12:30-3 a.m. Team Activities with fun games • 3-4 a.m. The events wind down and campsite clean-ups take place.
