Kenneth Rogers points to a grave and gives the history and brief genealogy of a Maxey ancestor. Nearly 40 descendants came to the newly cleaned-off Maxey Cemetery, between Latham and Palmersville, on May 24 to see the efforts of Kenneth Rogers and others. The graveyard had grown up with small trees and brush, making it almost inaccessible. Concerned descendants cleared brush, located graves, replaced two sandstone markers with new tombstones, repaired others, spread gravel, and unveiled a Maxey Cemetery sign built and donated by George Castleman of Latham. The oldest grave may be that of Edward (1820-1877) and Mahalah Maxey (1817-1898). The most recent burial was George Maxey’s, in 1951.
