DEMONSTRATION CONTESTS — Obion County 4-Hers recently participated in the Sub-Regional 4-H Project Showcase and Demonstration contests. Project Showcase Competitors choose a project, create an exhibit board with information about the project, give a short speech and answer questions about their exhibit. During the demonstration contest, youth give a speech and demonstration on a particular topic. These highly competitive contests allow youth to gain important life skills such as communication skills, achieving goals, positive self esteem, responsibility and leadership. Obion County Project Showcase exhibitors included (from left) Virginia Ruble and Kym Simpson, both eighth-graders at Black Oak Elementary. Miss Ruble placed first in the Gardening/Horticulture division with her exhibit on organic farming and terrariums. Miss Simpson placed second in the Veterinary Science division with her exhibit on raccoons. Ali Adcock, a Hillcrest fifth-grader, placed second in the Large Animal division with her demonstration on showing hogs.
