The Messenger. 05.26.08 Frederick Moore Russell Jr., 83, of Union City died 10 a.m. May 25, 2008, at Union City Retirement Center. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dilday Funeral Home in Union City, with the Rev. Jerry Leggett officiating. Burial will follow in Stanley’s Chapel Cemetery near Union City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Raymond Roberson, Nick Roberson, David Allen Russell and Danny Roper. Honorary pallbearers will be Marshall Lyell and Norris Newton. He was born March 29, 1925, in Weakley County, son of the late Rosalee (Rutledge) and Frederick Moore Russell Sr. He was a veteran of seven years in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany in World War II, where he was decorated with two Battle Stars. He then served 13 years in the U.S. Air Force, serving two tours of duty during the Vietnam era and retiring in 1969. He had been employed in the construction industry. He was a Baptist and an avid golfer and was a member of Jones-Walker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4862 in Union City. Survivors include his daughter, Diana Courter of Toney, Ala.; three sisters, Lola May Beasley of Birmingham, Ala., Patsy Mitchell of Martin and Nancy Eberly of Jacksonville, Ala.; two brothers, David Russell of Union City and Joe Russell of Memphis; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
