Youth Fishing Rodeo June 7
The days are finally warmer, what better time to introduce a child in your life to the outdoors through fishing.
National Fishing and Boating Week, June 1-8, is designed to introduce people of all ages to the sport of fishing. To celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week, Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge is hosting its 18th Annual Youth Fishing Rodeo June 7.
The fishing rodeo will be held at ponds near the refuge headquarters at Walnut Log on Highway 157, one mile off of Highway 22 and is open to children 12 years old and younger. Registration will begin at 7:15 a.m. with fishing starting at 8 a.m. until noon.
Only live bait will be allowed. Hundreds of door prizes, donated by local sponsors, will be given away during the rodeo, according to organizers. Hotdogs and drinks will be provided at no cost while supplies last. “The staff at West Tennessee Refuge invites you to join us for a day full of family fun,” organizers said. “You will experience excitement, amusement and entertainment as youngsters experience the joy of fishing, some for the first time.”
