VY defends ‘fun’
NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee quarterback Vince Young defended himself Thursday from a photo that appeared recently on the Internet showing him shirtless and drinking from a bottle, saying he was having fun with some friends during the offseason.
Young went back to the University of Texas in January to work toward his degree. The photo first appeared on the Web site TMZ.
“I really apologize to some of the kids if they did see it because I’m trying to be a role model to them,” Young said after a minicamp session.
“But at the same time I was just having fun, having a good time with my guys. I (hadn’t) seen them in a long time. We hadn’t been in Austin in so long. … Overall, we just had a good time. I didn’t drive home, didn’t do none of that crazy stuff. I had a designated driver …”
Young was asked if he had caught any grief from the photo being posted on the Web site TMZ of him shirtless and drinking from a large bottle. He said no, that he was just having a good time with some of his Texas friends who are in the NFL now like himself.
Asked if he was disappointed the photo was taken, Young said he understands that’s the way of life for a quarterback of his status.
“I guess someone was trying to make some money. I guess they must have sold the picture to the Web site,” he said.
