I had a total of 32 newcomers to deliver my Welcome Baskets to this time; of course this includes the last quarter of 2007 and the first quarter of 2008. I just wanted to add a special welcome to those people. The baskets will be delivered within the week. I so hope you enjoy the baskets provided by the Welcoming Committee sponsors: First State Bank, Sharon Furniture and Appliance, Sharon Flower Shop, Personal Touch Hair Salon, Signs and Stuff, Cardon Repair Service, City Hall, Sharon Police Department, Tracy’s Place, Josephine Allen – Home Interior and Avon, Wiley’s Grocery, Gayle’s Snack Shop, John Deere and Donetta Davis Photography. This is just our way of welcoming you to our community!
Don’t forget that Martha Jim Roberts will be at the Sharon Library at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, to sign her book, “SHARON: The Lasts 100 Years.” She will sign both the original release books and the new release books. Be sure to come by and meet the author! The library, City Hall and Tracy’s Place have copies of this book available for purchase for $25. And mark your calendars so you don’t forget that the Sharon Library Book Buzz will meet May 22, at 1:30 in the library!
Don’t forget that the Sharon Library Summer Reading Program is set for at 10 a.m. on the following Thursdays: June 5, 12, 19, and 26. The theme this year is space and all readers will receive prizes! For more information, call the library at 456-2707.
I would like to say a happy birthday to Modell Lowrance and Faye Peal who both celebrate birthdays on May 15! I want to wish a very happy birthday from the Sharon community! Remember that if you aren’t added to the community birthday and anniversary list, please email or call me with your information.
As always, at this time of year, my heart thinks of those who have lost their lives serving this country. Be sure you hang your flags for Memorial Day, and remember to pray for those who are serving this country now. I want to say a special thank you to each and every one of my readers who are serving or have served this country. Without the military in our country, we would not have the freedoms we have. Without our “volunteers,” we would not have the freedom and the rights that we take for granted! Don’t be someone who takes all this for granted! It is important that we recognize our military service personnel and honor them on this holiday as well as every day! And a special thanks to my son, Spc. Clark P. Burdette, who chose to serve in the U.S. Army.
Well, for today, that is “all the news that is news” from the Sharon community. Remember to continue to pray for the military, your neighbors, and that God will have mercy on our land!wcp 5-15-08
