New Salem Club meets
On May 2, Sylvia Simmons and Yvonne Shopher were hostesses for the New Salem FCE Club at the Richie & Reggie’s Restaurant with 11 members and Extension agent Beverly Shelby attending.
President Bettie Higgs opened the meeting as she greeted and welcomed everyone and read the thought for the day, “Mother … one who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” — Gaspard Meressillod
Devotion leader Aileen Edwards chose thoughts from Genesis 2 and 3 as she emphasized God’s creation of man as God’s masterpiece and God’s divine plan for all of creation. Song leader Marjorie Simmons led in singing “Mother” and “Wonderful Words of Life.” All read together the club creed.
As Secretary Ruby Rogers called the roll, each one responded with “If I could start my home business, it would be….” She followed by reading the minutes. Treasurer Sylvia Simmons gave her report and collected contributions for the cancer fund.
Beverly Shelby brought us more information from the “Cook’s Corner: Give Bacteria the Cold Shoulder,” by keeping a thermometer in the refrigerator and having a 40 degree reading, keeping your refrigerator clean, and other ways of reducing the risk of food-borne illnesses.
A time of fellowship followed which included recreation and refreshments.
The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m., June 6, at Ruby Roger’s home.
