A Troy teenager has been charged with a drug-related offense in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred in Kiwanis Park next to the Union City Police Department.
The 16-year-old juvenile, whose name has not been disclosed by police, was taken into custody at 8:39 p.m. Friday and charged with possession of marijuana through a juvenile court petition, according to a Union City Police Department report.
A police officer reported that while checking Kiwanis Park, he noticed a large group of people at the monument in the park. The officer said as he pulled up, two of the people got up and started to walk off, with one of them appearing to possibly be hiding something with his hands in front of his body. The officer reported he yelled for them to come back, but they did not stop, which resulted in another officer’s stopping them and getting them to return.
The officer reported he asked the 16-year-old boy if he had anything he shouldn’t have and the teenager gave the officer a small bag of a green leafy substance he said was marijuana, according to the report.
